Let Them Eat Cake!

ICYMI, I am a next level dog mom. I can’t help it! I love my little guys!

Each year as their birthdays hit, I always take some time to check out the local dog bakeries and their cake selections with the intention of supporting a local business and snagging an awesome cake. Yet I always end up choosing to make my own. Maybe it’s the helicopter dog mom in me, but I like ensuring the ingredients in their cake are dog friendly.

This recipe is the one I use, and I love how they turn out…I’ve even eaten one to see how it tastes, and while bland, it’s not bad!

Here’s what you need:

CAKE:
-1/2 tsp baking soda
-1 cup flour (I use almond flour because Murphy has issues with grain, but you can use any kind)
-1/8 cup vegetable oil
-1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce
-1 egg
-1/2 cup pumpkin puree (this is not pumpkin pie mix!)
-1/4 cup natural peanut butter (check the ingredient…no XYLITOL! I use the brand Crazy Richards)

FROSTING:

-1/4 cup natural peanut butter
-1/2 cup plain Greek Yogurt

Mix all cake ingredients together well. I typically mix the wet ingredients together then blend in the dry ingredients, but I have noticed it does not matter if you throw everything together from the start. Pour into greased pan. I use a pan that makes mini bone shaped cakes that I found on Amazon, but there are so many kinds you can use depending on the size of the dog and what you want to create. My three dogs are all small, so a small individual bone is what I found to be best for them. Bake for 25 minutes at 350 degree.

Once cakes come out of oven, allow them to cool. Mix together frosting ingredients and decorate! You can add a special treat on the top or even just serve them plain. If you don’t serve them right away, I recommend keeping them in a fridge until you are ready to paw-ty!

The dogs will love them!
