10 Random Things About Me
Hello, friends...both old and new!
I’m so happy you landed on my page and this blog! If you are coming to me from my previous blog or follow me on social media, you already know what to expect from me. If you are a new reader, let’s just say this blog will allow you to get to know me pretty quickly. I have a quirky sense of humor that borders on sarcastic and inappropriate, I tend to be a little all over the place, and I pride myself on being my authentic self always. That means I hit on all kinds of topics when I write, which includes the good, happy, rainbow and puppies kind of stuff, but also some of the real, raw things that make up life. It’s important to me to always show that authenticity and never just a highlight reel. What you see is what you get with me.
As I kick off this “new” blog….yes, NEW….I ran a previous blog since 2012 that is no longer active….I wanted to take a moment and share some random facts about me to give you a better glimpse into who I am. I find that the things I enjoymost about others and the things that help me connect to them are always the random things. Wouldn’t you agree?
Here’s ten random things about me!
1. I don’t like salad dressing, sauces, or condiments. Yes, I know that makes my food healthier, but I just don’t enjoy them! I dabble with horsey sauce and sometimes mustard, but it is very hit or miss with me. People that slather everything with Ranch make me a little nervous.
2. I have a major sweet tooth. While donuts are my #1, there really isn’t a sweet that I will say no to. I love to bake for others and find it to be a major stress reliever, and I even used to decorate cakes so much I considered opening my own cakery. Speaking of cake, I’m such a huge fan of cake that in the first grade I used to sign my name on my papers as “Cake”. I did it until my teacher called me out on it in front of the entire class (Thanks, Vicky Smith).
3. One of my favorite jobs of all time was getting to be an on air personality for Froggy, ironic since I hate frogs. My on air name was Pollywogg, and I absolutely loved getting to be on air, playing music, and going out into the community for live events. It also wasn’t a bad gig getting to meet and introduce celebrities like Joe Nichols, Bret Michaels, Toby Keith, and Travis Tritt to name a few. Yes, I love country music.
4. I don’t get embarrassed. Perhaps this stems back to my kindergarten picture when I was sitting spread eagle in the first row and was ridiculed for it….or the time I tried to walk on my hands before picture day and ended up with a huge black eye/rug burn addition to my face (sorry, Mom)…..or the entire four years I spent being ridiculous in college…or the time my pants fell down during a race last month when I wasn’t wearing underwear. Or the time I split my pants when teaching (wasn’t wearing underwear that time either). Who knows. I will laugh at myself harder than anyone when I do something stupid. Life is too short not to have fun and find humor in those kind of situations.
5. I definitely would be classified as “extra”, and I’m okay with that. However….as extra as I may be, I prefer simple over fancier things. I’ll choose watching football and eating pizza or sushi over a fancy five course meal any day. I mean, I can wear a super cute dress on the couch and be okay with that. It’s called balance, people.
6. I worked in Corporate America for over a decade managing various aspects in the Higher Education industry, and I have my Masters in Curriculum and Instruction in Adult Education. In 2015, I made the decision to walk away from that career to do my own thing in health and fitness, and I haven’t looked back since. Saying goodbye to a high paying and stable job to go into the unknown with no guarantees was one of the scariest things I have ever done, but I have hustled my ass off and finally found my purpose in life. You can’t put a price tag on that.
7. I’m literally an enigma of a human being. I love glitter, hot pink, tiny hats, dresses, lashes, and all things girlie, yet I am obsessed with sports, WWE, dinosaurs, lifting weights, and eating my steak rare. I make zero sense.
8. I love leopard print…..maybe a little too much. My first apartment out of college was completely leopard print, right down to the dishes. It’s a neutral to me.
9. I really like adventures and visiting new places, especially if they have to do with animals or nature. Lately I’ve been super into alpacas and love that there is an alpaca farm not far from me that I can go to regularly! Bonus: they have kangaroos and goats, also things I love.
10. I am an Enneagram 8. I always share that because I feel like knowing one’s enneagram is so important. They can help you understand a partner/friend/family member so much deeper, including how to best interact with them, how to get along with them, and their strengths and weaknesses. As an 8, I am someone who is confident, strong, and direct...sometimes my bluntness can scare people, but I don’t mean to. I just don’t like to beat around the bush. I love being independent, am loyal to a fault, empowering, love challenges, and will protect loved ones at all cost. I definitely feel some of those traits come across in my writing.
I find so much joy in the random, and I hope you do, too. I’m excited you are hanging with me on this blog and can’t wait to see what kind of random things we have in common.
